TOPS Knives Silent Hero 4 Refreshes a Previous Design for Easier Carry

Designed by Anton du Plessis, the original Silent Hero was intended to be used in the fight against rhino poachers. The special interdiction unit in Africa needed a mid-large tool to combat the poachers and the Silent Hero was born. However, even though the design was a hit, Anton realized that he wanted a smaller, more EDC-friendly version. TOPS Knives answered the call with the Silent Hero 4.

The blade length is the biggest difference between the original and the new Silent Hero. With the 4-inch cutting edge of the new version, the Silent Hero saw a two-inch reduction from the original 6-inches. In addition to the blade length reduction is an overall length reduction at 8.88-inches, down from 11.25-inches.

Although the Silent Hero 4 is constructed of the same 1095 high carbon steel, it utilizes a 1/8-inch stock, as opposed to the 3/6-inch stock of the original. Likewise, the Silent Hero 4 replaces the Black River Wash finish with a new Sniper Grey finish.

Providing the interface between man and steel are black canvas Micarta handle scales. Where the original scales featured the Rocky Mountain Tread, the new version features ergonomic swells for retention. Likewise, a deep finger notch sits just behind the guard to prevent the hand from slipping up onto the blade. Also, the guard itself features an elongated lanyard hole to affix a retention lanyard.

The drop point blade shape is more than just a shortened version of the previous model. Featuring a deeper belly, the Silent Hero 4 provides more edge within the 4-inch span. As a result, it excels at both fieldwork and defensive tasks. Also aiding in the length reduction is the removal of the finger choil on the blade. Although it moves the hand farther from the blade during whittling chores, it keeps the overall package to a more EDC-friendly size.

Unlike the original, which comes in a leather sheath, the Silent Hero 4 comes in a Kydex sheath. The sheath features Beta Loops with Pull the Dot snaps for scout carry or any configuration you choose.
